Maternity photography is a type of photography that captures the beauty and essence of a pregnant woman. It typically involves taking photographs of the expecting mother in various poses and settings, showcasing her baby bump and celebrating the upcoming arrival of her child.

I like to hold my maternity photography sessions in my studio in an outdoor setting like the beach during the golden hour, or a nature setting of a local park or field. These shoots can be done with just the mother-to-be or with her partner and other family members. The goal is to create images that the expectant parents will cherish for years to come and to capture this special time in their lives.

Some popular poses for maternity photography include:

1. Cradling the baby bump
2. Standing with hands on hips
3. Sitting or lying down with the belly exposed
4. Including props such as ultrasound images, baby clothes, or stuffed animals

I always try to combo my maternity photography clients with newborn photography and first birth day sessions to preserve the imagery from pre-birth through a child’s first year of life.
